The following photos show the new 30mm collimating optics. The older style, smaller collimating optics by Lumileds is on the left. The newer, tighter focused, larger 30mm collimating optics are on the right side.

Here is a photo of the light beams from two flashlights. The light beam on the left is a 1 watt Luxeon Star flashlight, using the older style collimating optics. The beam on the right is another flashlight, also using a 1 watt Luxeon Star, at the same voltage level, using the newer style 30mm collimating optics. The beam on the left measures less than 500 lux from 1 meter. The brighter beam on the right, being much more tightly focused, with more of the emitted light captured from the LS emitter, measures well over 1,700 lux, from 1 meter away!

Here is another photo, showing 4 different optics types, coming from the same Luxeon Star batwing type LED, at a constant power level. Meter readings at 1 meter:
