This flashlight is designed for the purpose of search and rescue, having an extremely powerful, super long distance throwing beam (and also plenty of side spill for close up viewing). Will project a beam up to 1000 meters. It's just difficult to find words to explain how this beam slices through the night air. Ample side spill for close up viewing. Run time is good, around 1.5 hours, and on low power will easily power the flashlight through a long night.
The brightness of this beam is getting up into the HID flashlight category, yet without all the drawbacks of using an HID flashlight. With an HID flashlight, you have a wait period when powering up, a cool down period after you turn the flashlight off, and you cannot cycle the light on/off/on/off, nor can you turn it on only for a moment. Every time you power on a HID flashlight, you have some degredation of performance, and this type of bulb has a short life, is fragile, and expensive to replace. An HID ballast is very expensive to replace. Using the ST90 Search and Rescue Extreme flashlight, you have none of these shortcomings. You can cycle the flashlight on/off/on/off as much as you like, use just for a monent, with no wait whatsoever for power up, when you turn it on it's on.
This flashlight would be good for other uses, light night time hunting of varmints, military use, law enforcement use, etc.

The S&R arrived this morning, frustratingly I can't try it at full whack yet because my protected cells haven't arrived yet... wasn't expecting delivery to be so quick!

I have to say, just on inspection though and without even turning it on, what a masterpiece! I love the over-engineering, it's right up my street, I really appreciate the thought and effort that has gone into it. I'm sure this won't be the last flashlight I have off you!

Hi Wayne,

I've been meaning to write you for a week but the days have just been to crazy. The ST90 came in last week. It's fantastic - just what I was wanted all along for my friend. I think he and his wife will really like it given their remote home location. It's gift boxed now, and must reluctantly be given away as the plan has been all along. It was really fun to work with last weekend though.

I think this product will be a real hit for EL. The CNC machining and quality finishing really make it look like a first class product. Those resources should prove to be a good investment in the business. There are many good choices for small lights, but for someone seeking HID-like long throw performance, the viable options are few.

Given your history of ever-increasing power innovation, I can't wait to see your encore to this one!
