Here is the Rayovac Sportsman headlamp, in it's package. |
The headlamp cover is removed, the light bulb glass is broken out, and wires are soldered on the bulb base, which is then put back in the headlamp. |
Here is the LM2595 step down circuit board. It measurs 1" X 2". It will go inside a small plastic project box. A on/off switch, and a variable dimmer knob will be installed. This headlamp will have variable brightness selection. |
Here is the Luxoen Star with optics, mounted on a 1 7/8" disc. Notice the cuts in the disc. This gives the heat sink extra cooling ability. |

This is a modification project to install a Luxeon Star LED in a Rayovac Sportsman headlamp. The power supply is 4 AA batteries which mount on the back of the headstrap. A LM2595 swiching step down regulator, capable of over 90% efficiency, will be spliced into the power line. There will be an on/off switch, and a variable brightness dimmer switch. Maximum brightness can be selected, or maximum battery life can be selected, or settings in between can be selected, according to lighting and battery life requirements. This modified headlamp will be availble for sale upon completion. |
