The EDC-MCE flashlight uses battery called 18650. It is a lithium ion (Li-Ion) chemistry battery. It is rechargeable, and requires a special charger for this type of battery. It is common to buy on the internet, but it is unlikely you will find it in any local store. This kind of battery has a large capacity, about twice that of a NIMH battery of the same size, and the voltage of the 18650 is 3.7v nominal, and usually charges to 4.2 volts.
What you should look for when purchasing this battery:
- A power rating of 1.5C or greater. If this rating is not listed, then contact the vendor and ask them. Some older 18650 batteries are rated at only .5C, and will not work in the EDC-MCE flashlight.
- Any battery you use should have internal protection circuitry. This circuitry protects against over/under discharging, which may damage the battery. It also protects against a dead short.
- Failure to observe the above mentioned criteria may result in risk of damage to battery or flashlight, or possibly risk of the battery catching fire.
You can do a web search for the 18650 battery, or, feel free to email Elektro Lumens with questions, suggestions on where to purchase this battery and related charger.
